Alastair Broggon: Owner and proprietor of Sword & Sorcery: Old Books for a New Age, a bookstore with offerings both accurate and mundane about the nature of magic and Shadow. Exhibits some proficiency with arcane magic himself. Revealed to be a liaison of Department 7.

Amy Heseltine: Undercover Department 7 agent at the Ogdoad Research facility 3 hours outside Abattoir. Feared missing following a mysterious three-day silence from that installation.

Antonio Barretti: Heir to an enormous gunsmithing fortune. Notoriously cocky. Prone to spending his idle days "slumming" in the poorer districts of the city. Currently a low-level agent of Department 7.

The Barrow Brothers: Siblings Alvin and Anthony; a pair of bounty hunters turned vigilantes following an encounter with a Shadowkind creature that turned south. Frequently engage in Shadowkind-harassing behavior toward the innocent and guilty alike. Recently implicated in the slaying of a halfling, as well as the abductions of three other Shadowkind, in the lower-class district of Abattoir near the Church of Good-Hearted Souls. Connected to the late Pastor Windwright.

Dennis Graham: Failed motivational speaker turned stand-up comedian; excellent people skills. An expert in the behavioral sciences. Frequent patron of The Magic Eye Lounge. Currently a low-level agent of Department 7.

Frank: A hulking monster of a man -- at least, that's as much as mundanes can see. In truth, Frank is a bugbear: a hairy, Bigfoot-esque Shadowkind race. Slow to speak but far from dull, Frank is an associate of Alastair Broggon. Connected with The Magic Eye Lounge, as well as local law enforcement, through an organization called The Displaced, which uses the lounge as a front. Recently the survivor of an attempted assassination at The Magic Eye Lounge by members of the Fraternal Order of Vigilance.

Hedge: Irish Department 7 agent stationed in Abattoir with an innate knack for magic. Specializes in site cleanup and field investigation. Has a background in the underground Catholic independence movement in Northern Ireland; boasts of ties with the IRA. No stranger to conflict and bloodshed; claims himself to be a master of demolitions.

Jacques de'Lafayette: Mysterious French ex-mercenary stranded in the US following the loss of a suitcase containing sensitive information and crucial identity papers. Harbors caution bordering on paranoia. Good with an assault rifle. Currently a low-level agent of Department 7.

Lilijune: Member of the Church of Good-Hearted Souls under Sister Deborah; witness to the abduction of Menejune, her brother. A gnome.

Menejune: Abducted by the Barrow Brothers and held within the bowels of the Metropolitan Church of Christ the King at the behest of Pastor Windwright. Brother to Lilijune. A gnome.

Pastor Windwright: A mindflayer masquerading as the leader of the Metropolitan Church of Christ the King. Organized a sinister scheme to abduct and torture members of the Shadowkind community, including members of the Church of Good-Hearted Souls, through the Barrow Brothers and others. Preached that Shadowkind were demons, devils and hellspawn to be wiped from the face of the Earth entirely. His motivations and possible ties lie shrouded in mystery. (Dead.)

Sister Deborah: A half-tiefling tending to the Church of Good-Hearted Souls, a congregation of the Church of Pelor in a poorer, lower-class district of Abattoir. Members of her congregation were abducted by the Barrow Brothers and delivered to Pastor Windwright.

Terrence Cavendish: Arcane projection permanently tied to the Department 7 townhouse at 7 Twilight Drive. Maintains the facility and acts a liaison between agents and the upper echelons of the department's management. Arrogant, tight-lipped, and takes joy in doing as little as possible to assist agents and their resulting frustration. Whether he is an original creation or based on a corporeal individual is unknown.

Tommy Eldritch: Hosts a popular nightly radio program a weekly TV talk show on cable access focusing on the paranormal and unexplained; has numerous contacts and ties to the Shadow community.

Umshakbazj: The given name of the bugbear known more commonly as Frank, in the tongue of his native people from beyond Shadow.

John Visage: Recovering alcoholic (supposedly) and freelance investigator. Possesses razor-sharp senses, when not dulled by liquor. Currently a low-level agent of Department 7.
